Tō mātou moemoeā Our Vision
Poipoia te kākano kia puāwai
Nurture the seed and it will blossom.
Wild Places Education is a Ministry of Education licensed early learning centre and a non-profit, charitable trust. We aspire to create a co-operative educational experience with tamariki, whānau, and community, using the natural world and te ao Māori as we grow together as a learning community with a strong connection to our place.
A Love of Lifelong Learning
Our goal is to inspire a love of lifelong learning, preparing tamariki as they begin their educational journey. Each child and whānau brings unique skills, knowledge, and experiences, making our shared learning richer and more meaningful.
Embracing te ao Māori
At Wild Places Education, we are passionate about embracing te ao Māori, ensuring Māori feel their culture is celebrated, te reo is respected and nurtured, and everyone can take pride in their heritage.
We believe in hauora — holistic wellbeing — and work with tamariki and whānau to explore its four aspects: connection to the natural world, physical health through active play, the importance of relationships, and emotional wellbeing. Together, we journey toward a deeper understanding of hauora for the benefit of all.
We also value diversity of whānau, recognising the importance of including extended whānau, iwi, and community in fulfilling our vision. Through manaakitanga, we care for, respect, and extend generosity to all whānau, and through kotahitanga, we celebrate a sense of togetherness — all in the same waka, supporting growth for kaiako, tamariki, and whānau alike.
Our kaupapa is firmly aligned with Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum
The Importance of Learning in Nature
At Wild Places Education, we believe that our beautiful outdoor classrooms are the perfect place to nurture every child’s growth. Children who spend time in nature tend to be happier, healthier, more confident, more creative, and more connected.
Tamariki experience cognitive growth by exploring, creating, measuring, and experimenting, sparking curiosity, creativity, and imagination. Every day brings new discoveries, opportunities for problem-solving, storytelling, and language growth through hands-on, open-ended play. Tamariki flourish through friendship, adventure, and teamwork in a supportive, caring environment where every child feels seen and valued.
Learning in nature nurtures emotional and physical wellbeing. It helps tamariki grow a sense of calm, confidence, and resilience. Whether it’s splashing in puddles, climbing, or taking on new challenges, children develop courage and a deep sense of wonder and gratitude for the world around them. Active play in the natural environment also supports whole-body movement, coordination, and balance, boosts immune systems, encourages healthy sleep, and builds strong, happy bodies — all while having fun.
Through daily connection with Papatūānuku, tamariki learn to love and care for the Earth. Our vision is to inspire future caretakers who understand the importance of protecting and appreciating nature, fostering a lifelong connection with the world they live in, and growing a deep respect for the environment through everyday discovery and adventure.
