Wild Places Education

Nature-based early childhood education service in Māwhera/Greymouth

Mauri tū, mauri ora

An active soul is a healthy soul

Wild Places Education is a nature based early childhood education service located right on the doorstep of the stunning Paroa beach. We use the beach, the native bush and the river as our education setting. As a bush kindy, we follow in the footsteps of forest schools from around the world, learning together in relationship with each other and the land. We embrace Māori values and knowledge; seeking to embody them in our programme in authentic and meaningful ways. Our vision is to grow tamariki who are capable, resilient, curious, confident and kind: ready for the lifelong journey of learning.

Adventure begins here!

Our Bush Kindy has its very own special patch of wilderness — the perfect base for play, imagination, and discovery. Shady trees keep us cool through summer, while the nearby beach offers the BIGGEST sandpit you’ll ever find! There are puddles made for jumping, a bustling mud kitchen, plus rope challenges and bush swings for the brave and adventurous.

We launch bottle rockets, paint with nature, tell stories by the fire, and share kai and fireside cooking together under the trees. With climbing nets to conquer, art supplies to spark creativity, and books to inspire curious minds — every day is an outdoor adventure waiting to unfold.
